The news that the Honda Civic Type R is coming to America is almost two years old now. Since then, we’ve seen one prototype, and numerous spy shots of the car testing. At the Geneva Motor Show yesterday, Honda finally took the wraps off the first-ever U.S.-bound Type R, and fans of both the car and the Civic in general can’t get enough.
Based on the Civic hatch that was launched last year, the Type R adds flared fenders, air intakes, and a wing-like rear spoiler to differentiate it from its more pedestrian cousin. Under the hood, power is delivered by a new 306 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four, with a six-speed manual offered exclusively. Three driving modes are offered—Sport (default), Comfort, and R+.
Like other tenth generation Civic models, the Type R will also come with all the gadgets found on the Touring trim, from heated front seats, a leather wrapped steering wheel, phone connectivity, and a whole lot more.
The Type R will also make an appearance at the New York Auto Show in April, followed closely to its arrival in dealerships like ours in Buena Park, CA. If you want to look at other Civic models we have on tap, take a look at our new Honda inventory online.
